Staying near the Severn Valley Railway

The railway

The Severn Valley Railway runs sixteen miles of heritage line from Bridgnorth down the river valley to Kidderminster, behind original steam engines and heritage diesels. Seasonal events such as the galas and the Santa specials run alongside the ordinary timetable. It doesn't run every day, so check the running days before you plan your trip.

Getting to the stations from the park

Bridgnorth

2.9 miles, about seven minutes by car. The station is in High Town. Without the car, take the 297 Bus from the stop by the park into Low Town, then walk up or ride the Cliff Railway.

Hampton Loade

About 20 minutes by car. The station is on the other side of the river from the A442, so the drive goes round by Bridgnorth.

Highley and the Engine House

About 25 minutes by car. The Engine House visitor centre at Highley has locomotives from every era of the line.

Kidderminster

About 20 minutes by car down the A442, if you'd rather start at the southern end and ride north to Bridgnorth.

Making a day of it

The easiest day is to leave the van on the pitch, catch the bus into Bridgnorth, ride the line to Kidderminster and back, and finish with the Cliff Railway and a walk along the river in Low Town. If you're coming for the railway itself, a stay of a few nights lets you do the line one day and Bridgnorth, the river and the walks the next.
